Young Collins stars with the ball but City get the win!

This was the 2nd game for the very young and inexperienced Corse & Staunton U10 side, with young Luke Arnold and Jack Collins making their debuts against Gloucester City.

Gloucester Cities captain Luke Merchant won the toss and elected to bowl first, so Mat Brown and Jack Tyrer opened the batting to face Merchant and a. Korrod. Both openers bowled a consistently good line and length, but Brown was in good form square driving Korrod for 2 boundaries. Both batsmen lost a wicket during their over finishing on 206.

Murray Priday and Michael Wynn were next in. The pair had to face D. Prosser and J. Whiting who bowled exceptionally well. Prosser bowled straight and got plenty of bounce taking 2 wickets, but both batsmen were very brave and stuck to their task and finished on 188.

Josh Preston and Luke Arnold were the next pair. Preston playing well on the leg side scoring 2 boundaries, but his enthusiasm to hit a third boundary resulted in him being bowled by T. May. Meanwhile Luke (not phased by the occasion) played a good supporting role and kept his wicket intact.

Ben Wheeler and Jack Collins were the next pair in. Ben defended very well and Jack Collins showed great potential with the bat, but was more interested in finding out when he could bowl.

Andy Tillot and James Swanton followed. Both were very patient and displayed a good technique, which enabled Staunton to finish on 214.

In reply Gloucester City's openers Merchant and J. Sly started very cautiously with bowlers Ben Wheeler and Jack Tyrer keeping the pair down to 206 with the help of a great piece of fielding from Josh Preston to run out J. Sly.

C. Westear and T. May were next to bat putting on 13 from Swanton and Wynn's bowling which continues to improve (2 overs for 3 runs).

D. Prosser and J. Leighton were the penultimate pair to bat. Mat Brown bowled a good first over at them taking a wicket, and then tossed the ball to young Jack Collins to bowl from the other end. Collins (who had been eager to bowl even when Staunton were batting) grasped his opportunity, and proceeded to bowl 3 overs 2 maidens 1 wicket for 2 runs with no wides, pegging back City to 223.

L. Bullock and A. Karron completed City's innings. Karron was in fine form hitting 2 boundaries to take City to 262 and a comfortable win.

Both clubs agreed that the match had been an extremely worthwhile experience for the young players and that a return fixture would ensue.

Staunton's player of the match went to Jack Collins for his fine bowling performance on debut.
